Introducing Brittany Lark, Dipl.Ac, L.Ac.
Acupuncturist & Chinese Herbalist
I have been practicing Eastern medicine for 11 years and specialize in infertility, pregnancy and pediatrics. I have helped couples conceive both naturally and those using assisted reproductive techniques such as IUI and IVF. Throughout pregnancy, I help women with everything from morning sickness to labor induction. Acupuncture is safe and effective during pregnancy and can alleviate pain, headaches, allergies, assist in breech presentation and labor induction! I recommend weekly pre-birth treatments starting at 35 weeks. Studies have shown this may reduce the length of labor and generally helps women go into labor naturally! My other passion is treating children, I have treated babies as young as 3 days old. I love working with children of all ages to build immunity and treat a variety of childhood ailments. When treating children, I use a non-needle technique called Shonishin. Shonishin, is a great alternative to using needles and is incredibly effective for treating colds, respiratory conditions, colic, allergies, asthma, digestive conditions, poor sleep and much more. My goal is to support their precious little systems and prevent illness.
As a mother of a 20 month old, I understand the joys and stresses of being a new mama. Our health and the health of our families should always come first, and I am dedicated to helping families achieve their health goals!

and now meet Sandy…
Hello! My name is Sandy and I’m the face behind the camera at Wild Prairie Photography! I have an epic love for natural light photography and capturing the little moments in our lives. I thrive on emotion filled images. They. Seriously. Make. My. Heart. Beat! Ahhh!! Nothing makes me smile more than detail shots like the one above. The little hands and hint of a grin do it for me in a big way. Emotion. That’s where it’s at. Have you ever had your photo taken and it was like pulling teeth? I am with you there. (Ladies, guys seriously NEVER enjoy getting their photo taken. I recommend bribes. Ha! A little bit of candy and kisses goes a LONG way!) When I started my photography business, I made a decision to ensure my clients experience with me as their photographer was something that I would enjoy myself if it were me on the other side of the lens. Natural interaction. That is what I strive for. I want you to play with your family. Love them. Kiss. them. Hug them! Really, just be yourself. I find that when clients are given the lead, their photos are much more personal. Bursting full of emotion (there I go with that word ‘Emotion’ again, can you tell I really dig it?!). I consider myself a ‘natural light photographer’. What does that mean you ask? Generally speaking, I typically only use the available light around me (yes, that means NO flash! Hooray for that, right?!). That golden sun and beautiful diffused light from a overcast sky are gems to me. The way light can turn a photo from something okay, to an image that I absolutely adore is always amazing to. I totally use it to my advantage. For this reason, my family sessions generally take place in the evening during the last few hours of daylight. The. Light. Is. Gorgeous! I cannot wait to meet you and your family!!
5 Phases was founded by a mom, who after the birth of her own baby, felt there was a need for a safer and healthier alternative to bottle feeding.
This is the first bottle feeding system to introduce an interchangeable glass insert. What that means is that you get the safety of glass bottles inside a recyclable BPA free plastic sleeve. So no broken bottles or mess if one does break!
5 Phases has generously donated two bottles to the raffle prizes so one mom can give them a whirl!
My husband has been my best friend for just over ten years. We met in college and our friendship grew into more than I expected. We actually started dating right before I graduated in 2005 with a lot of discussion about whether it would harm our friendship. We decided to give it a try and over the years, our relationship has survived long-distance, huge moves, career changes, and going back to school. When he proposed to me in April of 2008, we were excited to plan for married life together. Everyone said the first year of marriage would be the hardest, but we figured if we had already gone through many of the things we endured so far, the first year of marriage would be a piece of cake. And, luckily for us, we were right! Married life was not too much different than dating.
Fast forward to November 7, 2013… our 4-year wedding anniversary. This was also the day we found out I was pregnant and due in July the next year. I remember being nervous, excited, and feeling protectiveness within me over the tiny life I carried in my womb. In the back of my mind, I wondered how much the relationship with my husband would change as we transitioned into parenthood even though we had a solid marriage. We took birthing classes, breastfeeding classes, read books, watched films, and prepared for as much as we could. The big day came and 35 exhausting hours later, I held my son in my arms for the first time. It was all so unreal and wonderful. From that moment on, I would be known as “Mom”.
With the title of “Mom” comes so much responsibility, that there were times I pushed aside “Wife”, “Friend”, and even “Christie”. My whole world shifted so drastically that it was difficult to maintain the life I knew I wanted to have and I often mourned how much my relationship with my husband had changed. Connecting with each other doesn’t come as easily because of the added responsibility of a little one, fewer hours in the day for each other, and the roles we must take on now that we are parents. This first year of parenthood has been so much more difficult than any first year of marriage I could have imagined. However, I’m pleased that we made it and have survived this huge transition together. Without support from friends, family, and each other, some post-partum education, and my own experience working with new parents in my private practice, it would have been so much more challenging.
My passion and mission of my work is to help new parents through this transition and make it to the other side a stronger, more loving, and supportive couple. Being parents also means being engaged and connected with each other and knowing how to maintain your relationship together. It’s so disheartening to know that two thirds of all couples who have children together are unhappy in their relationship after the baby is born. I know it’s been hard for me and my husband and our story is not unique. I’m sure your story may be similar and I urge you to act ahead of your baby’s birth day and begin safeguarding your relationship now.

It’s smart to make a plan for managing your home in the first few weeks after baby. They eat 10-12 times every 24 hours at the beginning, so WHEN and WHAT are you going to eat??
Enter The Organic Dish. They are a Boulder-based organic meal delivery business. I had the chance to sit down with co-owner Drew Sorrells who explained that everything you possibly need to make a delicious meal gets prepped and delivered to you frozen.
You do just the cooking.
No reading recipes.
I think my husband would have loved this, since I put him in charge of feeding us when our baby was first born.
When you are focused on your baby, you aren’t going to have the time or energy to meal plan, grocery shop and prepare meals on top of that, so this is a total life saver! And you don’t want to compromise on quality or taste!
The modern day meal train.
Set up a Good Food account on the Organic Dish website and your friends and family, near and far, can send funds to support in ordering some delicious and healthy food to support you in your post partum period!
The best part is that you can choose the meals you want to eat, and you’re not stuck with what your neighbor made for you!
A Menu Just for Breastfeeding Moms
Keep your eyes open for new menu items launching this fall that is being jointly crafted by The Organic Dish chef and nutritionist Kodiak Soled, perfect for the lactating mom.
If you didn’t know, there are some food items that can be irritating to our babies so moms won’t have to worry about these meals having gluten, dairy, nightshades or cruciferous veggies. And this special menu will feature the proteins and fats that breastfeeding requires.
I love to see businesses catering to what new families really need!
The Organic Dish has generously donated 3 $50 gift certificates to the raffles at the Natural Parent Expo!
And EVERY attendee gets 10% off when they try The Organic Dish for the first time!
Also at the Expo, you can talk to Kodiak for more info on your nutrition during pregnancy and postpartum period.

Rhianna Weaver of Sunrise Lotus Acupuncture shares her personal experience using acupuncture for reproductive health and why she has dedicated her practice to serving women from fertility to postpartum and children.
During my program (Master of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine,) I got married and we decided to get off birth control. And honestly, I didn’t really have a choice- my body just could not handle the birth control any more. I’d been on and off for over 10 years and it was wreaking havoc on my body. Getting off birth control was very difficult for me, probably one of the hardest things my body has gone through, and the only thing that got me through it, was acupuncture and Chinese herbs. There was absolutely nothing that western medicine was going to do for me. I had awful acne, I gained a lot of weight, I was depressed, and sick all the time.
I just couldn’t believe (but wasn’t surprised) that women have to do that alone, no one was talking about it, no one could really help me, and I just thought, this is something I have to do with this medicine. I have to help women!!!! I have to educate them and show them that they don’t even need birth control!! During my time in school I took all the obgyn classes and internships I could take, and I learned everything I could about hormones, pregnancy, and infertility. A few of my girlfriends got pregnant during my education and I was able to see the amazing benefits of acupuncture during pregnancy, child birth, and postpartum. In my opinion, pregnancy had turned into more of a medical condition than an event to be celebrated and nourished. I am passionate about nourishing and celebrating the divine feminine in all of us. I want to provide women the opportunity to have healthy births and healthy babies. It just seems like our medical system has failed us and I want to change that with Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Sunrise Lotus Acupuncture is a clinic specializing in Reproductive health, pregnancy, and pediatrics in Littleton Colorado. We value our holistic approach so that every woman has a chance to have a happy, health pregnancy. We educate, empower, and inspire women to make the best choices about their reproductive health.

Tracy Ryan told me that giving birth is the first lesson we get in motherhood. You have the best intentions for your baby’s birth. You have an idea of how birth is going to go and that’s exactly how it’s going to happen for you.
The truth is that birth doesn’t happen according to what we envision or imagine. We oversimplify if we tell ourselves this.
It’s what every mother eventually discovers: our kids have their own opinions and sometimes circumstances in life outweigh whatever plan we have made.
So obviously there are parts of birth that no one can control, and at the same time there is one small part mothers can control.
5 P’s for Birth
- Passenger aka baby
- Powers aka contractions
That last one is the only one we control. So Tracy wants us moms to give ourselves a break! We are only in charge of 1/5 of the process! 20 percent!
It’s refreshing to hear that, especially from someone like Tracy who knows birth as well as she does. She started her career as a midwife doing home births and then opened Colorado’s first and only (at the time) birth center Mountain Midwifery Center, moved to Denver Health and now is the Director of Midwifery for Baby+Company. As we chatted and she rattled off numbers of births attended, I am guessing Tracy is nearing 1,000 births in her career!
She’s also a mother of six and she knows from experience that moms just can’t fight every fight. You have to pick and choose. If you put too many fights in the bucket, the bucket gets too heavy to carry at all.
So when it comes to planning for your birth, be intentional about what you put into your mouth, how you move your body (exercise), and what’s in your heart. As for the rest? Let it go!
Tracy’s keynote address at the Natural Parent Expo will discuss all the options that moms in Denver have for birthing their babies and how to pick both a provider and a location that fits for your individual family.
I’m going to make this easy for you… For the first time during your entire pregnancy, I give you permission to close out of Google. Think about it, how many hours have you spent researching everything baby? Strollers, cribs, pediatricians, childbirth, the list goes on!
